What we do

Discover and measure

The Business Efficiency Audit

Working on site with you and your team, following the work from the first enquiry to the final invoice. We sit where the work happens: the front desk, the ute, the inbox, the end-of-day paperwork. We ask how each step is done now, who does it, how long it takes and what goes wrong. We count what can be counted.

You get a short written report: the three improvements worth making, what each would take, and what each would return. It is written in plain language for you, not for a consultant. Nothing is implemented during the Audit, and the report is yours whether or not we go further.

Improve

The process itself, redesigned so the work moves without double handling: how enquiries are answered, how jobs are quoted and booked, how sales are followed up, how stock is reordered, how the week is rostered. Often the fix is not a new tool at all. It is a step removed, a handover made clear, or a decision moved to the person who should be making it.

We also tell you what we noticed about how the team operate, because the process is only half of it. Where work piles up, where people wait on an answer, where one person holds everything in their head. You decide what to do with that; we say it plainly so you can.

Connect and automate

The tools you already pay for, joined up so information moves between them without retyping: your booking system, your accounting, your calendar, your inbox and your socials. An enquiry becomes a draft booking for you to approve. A finished job becomes an invoice. An unpaid invoice becomes a reminder, then a second one.

Where a step is repetitive, AI does it: sorting the inbox, drafting the reply, chasing the payment, filling the roster. Where a step needs a decision, it waits for you, with the work done and a single yes or no left. Nothing goes to a customer, a supplier or the tax office without a person saying so.

Build

When nothing off the shelf fits, or when you have had an idea for years and never had the time to start it: a booking flow, an internal tool, a website or app, built to the standard you see on this page. Small, specific and yours, rather than another subscription that does nine things you will never use, with the running costs stated before you say yes.

We also take your idea from a conversation to something you can see and test before anything is built: a mock-up, a worked example, a number. If the idea does not hold up, we tell you as part of the Audit, before you have spent money building it. If it does, you already know what you are getting.

Every line starts the same way: with a chat. The chat is free. The Audit is the first paid step, an agreed fee based on the business, settled before it starts. Nothing after it happens without a separate agreement.

How it works

01 Discover

We watch how the business actually runs, start to end, and listen to the people who run it. Not a questionnaire: time at the counter, in the van, in the inbox, on the phone with you. By the end we can describe your week back to you, and you will tell us where we have it wrong.

02 Measure

We put numbers on what we saw: hours spent on admin, how long an enquiry waits for a reply, how many never get one, how much money is sitting in jobs done but not invoiced. These are the numbers we come back to at the end, so you can see whether anything actually changed.

03 Redesign

We work out the better way and show it to you as something you can see and judge before anything changes: the new flow drawn out, a mock-up on a screen, a worked example with your own figures in it. You approve the design, not a promise.

04 Automate

The repetitive steps go to the tools you already have, and to AI where it earns its place. Each automated step has a person at the end of it who can say no. We set up the approvals before we set up anything else.

05 Implement

We put it in place with you, on site, during a normal week. Your team learns it by using it, with us there. We stay with it and support it for the life of the service, and we write down how it works so you always know what it does.

06 Measure again

Some weeks later we come back to the same numbers from step two and tell you plainly what moved, what did not, and what to do next. If something has not worked, that is in the report too.

What we work with

Your tools, not ours

We start with what you already run: Square, Impos, Fresha, Xero, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, Facebook and Instagram, and most of the booking, accounting and almost any system a business already pays for. We do not ask you to change systems so that we can work with you. If a tool is genuinely the wrong one, we will say so, and tell you what it would cost in time and money to move, so you can decide.

The rules we work by

Nothing goes out to a customer, a supplier or the tax office without a person saying so. Your customer data stays in your own accounts. Where a connection passes information through another service, including an AI model, we name it and you approve it. Every connection we set up is written down so you, or anyone after us, can see what it does and switch it off. And we do not implement anything without a separate agreement that says what it is, what it costs, and what it should return.

Who you'll be working with

Steven at his desk

I’m Steven, founder of Method & Machine.

I’ve spent more than twenty years in leadership roles with some of Australia’s largest retail organisations, working across several categories and at multi-site and state level.

Method & Machine grew out of helping people I knew with their businesses and professional lives, including, more recently, serving as treasurer of a not-for-profit. I discovered how much I enjoy applying what I’ve learnt to someone else’s challenges—and seeing the difference it can make.

I do the work myself, supported by a team of AI agents I’ve built and refined over time. I use them every day, in my own life as much as in my work. They’re built around the way I approach problems. Like any team, getting the best from them takes leadership, knowledge, planning, training and follow-through. I lead the work and take responsibility for the result.

People who’ve worked with me know I’m persistent. Once I take something on, I’m determined to deliver more than expected.

Along the way, I’ve been told, “Steve, you’re a machine.” I’ve also been told there’s room for improvement in my social skills.

I’ll take the first. The second is fair.

Also for individuals and professionals

The same approach works for one person: household admin and organisation, your own productivity at work, practical AI in your day, and the side project or idea that needs someone to shape it and get it moving. The boundaries are clear and so is the price, and it starts the same way.

Questions people ask

Do I need to be good with technology?

No. You need to know your business, which you do. We work with the tools you already use, and anything new is set up so it runs without you thinking about it. If a step needs your decision, it waits for you; it does not need your skill.

What does the first step cost?

The first chat costs nothing. The Audit is an agreed fee based on the business, covering the time on site and the written report, settled before we start, with nothing implemented until you have read the report and said yes. We do not publish a figure here because it depends on the business; you will have the fee before you decide.

Will AI be sending things to my customers?

Only what you have approved. The rule across everything we build is that nothing goes out to a customer, a supplier or the tax office without a person saying so. AI drafts, sorts and reminds; you decide.

Do you work outside Broome?

Yes, across the Kimberley by arrangement, and the connected part of the work can be done from anywhere. The time on site is in person; the follow-up often is not.

What if I just want a website?

We are not a website business. We are here to improve how your business runs, and a website is only ever one part of that. Where a website is what the business needs, we build it, to the standard you are looking at now, but we start with how enquiries reach you and where they go next, because a good website that feeds a slow process is a slow process with a good website.

How long does it take?

We are on site until we have the information we need, and the report follows within a timeframe agreed before we start. Connecting and automating is paced so that each change settles before the next one starts and your team is never learning more than one thing at a time, with the dates agreed before we begin. A build takes as long as the thing you are building, and you will have a date before you say yes.

Do I have to change the tools I use?

No. We start with what you already run and connect it. If a tool is genuinely the wrong one for the job, we will tell you, with what it would cost to move and what it would save, and the decision is yours.

What happens to my customers' information?

It stays in your own accounts. Where a connection passes information through another service, including an AI model, we tell you which one and why, and you approve it before it runs. Every connection we set up is written down so you can see what it does and switch it off. Our own handling of your details is in the privacy policy linked below.
